Frank Rampolla: Drawings from the Personal Sketchbooks brings together a rarely seen body of drawings made by my father, Frank Rampolla, between the early 1960s and his death in 1971. Preserved by my mother and our family for more than fifty years, the sketchbooks include studies, fragments, observations, and fully resolved drawings that reveal a more immediate side of his work.

My wife, Heather, and I originally assembled the book from these sketchbooks, along with recollections and critical writing by artists, students, colleagues, and critics who knew my father and his work. This revised edition remains essentially the original book, with corrections and minor refinements to the text and presentation.
