Dignity

The Light Within

Dignity sits in conversation with Held in Bone. Where that work turns inward through reflection and absence, this series meets people encountered in public spaces, face to face.

I traveled across the United States making portraits of individuals I met in passing. Many were living without stable shelter. The work does not center on circumstance, but on presence. I was drawn to what registered in those moments: regret, joy, fear, fearlessness, fatigue, hope. The camera becomes a point of exchange. These images meet the viewer eye to eye.

Unlike my other series, Dignity is not tightly edited. The work remains deliberately expansive. Each encounter holds equal weight. Every person deserves to be seen.
