What the Land Remembers grew out of nearly forty years of returning to the same stretch of the Hillsborough River. Over time, the place became less a destination than a presence, shaped by water, vegetation, changing light, and repeated passage.
People have lived on and traveled through this land for at least ten thousand years. The record is fragmentary, but something of that long human presence seems to remain. These photographs stay with what the landscape reveals, and with what it keeps to itself.
